Head Coach

Colleen Dunne Barczyk

Coach Colleen swam competitively since age 5. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Auburn University in Biology/History with a minor in Education. She then went on to receive her Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine. She was a Junior and Senior National Qualifier whom went on to swim on scholarship at Auburn under Coach Dave Marsh.

She has been the Head Coach of City of Lafayette Aquatics for the past twleve years with previous coaching experience at All Acadiana Aquatics, Stingray Swim Club (Atlanta, GA.) and Brevard Swim Team (Cocoa, FL.) Coach Colleen has coached numerous swimmers to the National, Junior National, and Sectional level as well as many state level swimmers. She is presently the General Chairman of Louisiana Swimming.

Coach Colleen coaches Ascension High School Team. She has also been involved with coaching TCH, ESA, Carencro, and WCA. Coach Colleen has coached ESA to a Boys State Championship and to several girls State Runner Up Titles.

Colleen was recently honored by Louisiana Swimming at the USA Swimming COnvention with a Lifetime USA Swimming Membership Award for her dedication to the spoirt of swimming in Louisiana.

She is married to Dr. David Barczyk and they have two children Victoria 17 and Jillian 14.

Sarah Landreneau

Coach Sarah started swimming competitively at age nine. She swam for Ed Kelley and the Hurricane Swim Club through high school. She went on to swim on Scholarship at Ouachita Baptist University where she received the Jerry Forehand award for leadership. She was a repeat top three champion at the conference meet.

Sarah was involved in coaching summer league and United States swimming for nine years before beginning work with COLA. She has been with City of Lafayette Aquatics for the past nine years where she has coached many swimmers to the State Level.

Coach Sarah was 2013 Louisiana Age Group Coach of the Year. Sarah was selected as a Louisiana Zone Coach for 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2014. She is also currently the the Zone Trip Team Coordinator for Louisiana Swimming.

Coach Sarah also has a Swim America Program Director License and is the director of COLA's Swim America Swim Lessons Program.

She is married to Chris Landreneau and has three children Marie 10, Thomas 8, and baby Eli.

Mary Margaret Trahan

Mary Margaret or Marg is a COLA Alumni. She graduated high school from STM where she swam on their high school team four years. Marg then went on to UL where she graduated in the fall of 2007 with her degree in Education. Marg has coaching experience with both COLA and LST. She is also a member of the Red’s Master’s Team. Coach Marg is also a certified Swim America Instructor. Marg has represented Louisiana Swimming as a Louisiana Zone Team Coach for the past four years.

Coach Marg is currently the ESA High School Swim Coach and teaches Pre-K at Holy Family Catholic School in Lafayette.

Dr. Donald B. Balhoff

Donald swam competitively for 14 years on several USS Swimming teams in Baton Rouge, including the Baton Rouge Y Nauts, the Bengal Swim Team, and LSU Aquatics (now Bengal Tiger Aquatic Club). During these years he was a multiple-time All-State USS swimmer and former Baton Rouge High School City Meet record holder with Catholic High School (B.R.). Over the years he trained with several former U.S. and international Olympic Team swimmers, including Jarrod Marrs and Ashley Tappin, and his USS teams won numerous short course and long course Louisiana State Meet championships. While in college at the University of Notre Dame, Donald was a 4-year member and 3-year captain of the Men’s Water Polo team and competed against teams from around the country. Donald’s coaching experience includes 3 years as assistant coach and 4 years as head coach of Sherwood Forest Country Club’s summer league swim team in Baton Rouge. He has been a volunteer coach with COLA since 2004.

Donald is a board-certified orthodontist in private practice with offices in Lafayette and Eunice. He is a member of several professional dental and orthodontic organizations. Donald’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame (1995), a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from LSU School of Dentistry (1999), and an orthodontics specialty certificate from Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine (2001). Click here if you would like more information about Donald’s orthodontics practice, Balhoff Orthodontics. Donald resides in Lafayette with his wife Kristin and their children, Ella, Jack, and Lucy.

Chris Landreneau

Chris swam competitively beginning at age 6. He swam for Coach Wally Fall on COAST in Alexandria. Chris went on to swim in high school and then in college at Ouachita Baptist University where he was a Two time Division II NCAA All American. Chris received his BA at Ouachita in History and went on to UL to receive his Masters Degree in History.

Chris coaches STM High School Team where he has coaches a team to a State High School Runner Up Title. He has also been involved in coaching Teurlings and Opelousas Catholic.

Chris is the Masters Swim Coach at Red Lerille's in Lafayette. Chris is married to Sarah Landreneau and has three children Marie 10, Thomas 8, and baby Eli.

 

Middle School Swim Coach

Mary Ellen Stegall

Coach Mary Ellen Stegall graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University (New Orleans) with a double major in psychology and social studies education.   She also earned a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is licensed as a professional counselor. 

As Mary Ellen Ruiz, Coach Mary Ellen was a summer only swimmer for St. Mary Swim Team in Morgan City from the age of 11 – 18.  She worked with Coach Dick Bower and the BOLTS in New Orleans while she attended Loyola and coached the St. Mary Swim Team in the summers.  After a few years away from swimming, she returned to coach Riverside Swim Team for 18 years until moving with her family to Houston.  Additionally, Coach Mary Ellen coached the St. Thomas More (8 years), Academy of the Sacred Heart (5 years), and Breaux Bridge (3 years) high school teams.  Several of the STM teams earned runner up status in the LHSAA state championships.

Coach Mary Ellen is married to Richard Stegall.  They have three children:  James, Maria, and Patrick.  She works at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette in the psychology and honors programs.
